Mr. Smith was Mr. Carnegie's general manager. Mr. Smith became known for his excellent management style, increasing the output of the Carnegie Steel Company by 250%. Mr. Smith was a collector of art. He contributed the art and mansion for the Smith collection on Madison Avenue in New York. It is considered one of the foremost collections of Dutch painters. Mr. Smith started the Smith Foundation. He later funded the SmithFoundation Scholarship at Albany State University for students with very high potential.
